It’s an election year in Somerville, and the Somerville Media Center will be ready to support voters with all the information they need to make a choice. As we have for 38 years, SMC will work to broadcast information about all races, but will not take a side in any campaign.
June 30, 2021 is the deadline to certify nomination papers for all candidates running for office. Once each candidate is certified by the city Elections Department, after the June 30 deadline, SMC will offer each a two-minute candidate video to be used any way the candidate chooses. These videos will be used on SCAT-Channel 3, our social media properties and our website as well.
During the campaign, candidates will be invited to debate in a live forum hosted by SMC. Each debate will be divided by race: Mayoral candidates debate mayoral candidates, Councilors debate councilors, etc. During this election, SMC will support Somerville organizations seeking to advocate for their issues on the city level. While priority will be given to SMC member organizations for roles in forums, all groups will be given a seat at the table.
Dates to know:

  • June 30, 2021 Certification of nomination papers and candidate eligibility
  • Sept. 14, 2021 Preliminary elections will be held

The Somerville Media Center is a non-partisan organization and will not endorse a candidate or slate of candidates in this, or any city election. For more information, contact Executive Director Kat Powers at kpowers@somervillemedia.org.
