Somerville residents are invited to apply for four vacancies on the Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Three of the vacancies must be filled by people who identify as having a disability.
The Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities is committed to ensuring equity and inclusion for Somerville residents, workers, and visitors. The Commission works closely with the City’s Department of Racial and Social Justice and ADA Coordinator to carry out its mission and ensure all are welcomed.
After completing a first term, Commissioners may be considered for reappointment for an additional three years. Candidates must be able to commit to a minimum of five hours of monthly service in addition to attending regular Commission meetings on the second Tuesday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m. These are volunteer positions.
The appointment process includes an interview with members of the Commission, followed by recommendation from Mayor Ballantyne and appointment by the City Council. All Commissioners must comply with and sign the City of Somerville’s Code of Conduct for Board, Commission, and Committee Members.
Applications are due Friday, September 8. Applicants should submit a personal statement of interest describing why they would like to join the Commission by email to email@example.com, or by mail to Adrienne Pomeroy, ADA Coordinator, City of Somerville, 93 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02143.
