Annual Breakfast Meeting & Member Elections
The Somerville Media Center membership is invited to attend our Annual Breakfast Meeting and Member Elections on Saturday, February 29 from 10:00am – 12noon at SMC studios. A light breakfast with coffee will be served as well.
Like last year, we have separated out the member recognition and producer awards (SMC Honors will be Thursday, April 16 – save the date) to better focus on each. In this case, SMC’s Annual Meeting will center on the SMC membership electing one of its own to become the next SMC member representative to serve on the SMC board of directors as well as other important matters related to our organization. It is an opportunity to get the “state of SMC report” and find out how you can support our future.
To learn more about the role and duties of serving on SMC’s board, as well as to nominate yourself or another SMC member, review the information below and submit your nomination!
SMC’s Future Home & Your Support
The SMC board will be quite active and involved with helping to shape the future of SMC. This includes working on the elevated priority of SMC’s facility needs and working to locate our future home.
The City of Somerville has alerted SMC to the need to vacate its home at 90 Union Square by the tentative date of May 31, 2020, on a temporary basis, for which some long overdue rehabilitation of the site can get underway.
We hope to have more answers and details to provide at the annual meeting (as such, this alone should be reason for SMC membership to attend). The search for a temporary site is already underway. But make no mistake, there are no illusions as to the disruption to the activities that go on at 90 Union Square. One’s involvement with the SMC board obviously means a lot of hard work with organization to navigate this critical and vulnerable period.
Again, as for SMC membership on the whole, there are many implications to this news. And many opportunities where we could use your help, support and advocacy. As such, we encourage you to plan to attend the 2020 Annual Meeting held Saturday, February 29 at 10 AM at Somerville Media Center studios at 90 Union Square.
Board Nominations & Processes
For those looking to “give back” to the community media movement, Somerville Media Center Board of Directors has an opening for a Member Representative. It is an honor to serve on the board, and it’s an opportunity to give back to the organization that provides so much. But before one throws their hat into the ring, please consider the obligations that come with this voluntary position. I emphasize this because SMC is undergoing some very noteworthy changes!
