November Zippy Brief

october-zippy-briefYou may have noticed a couple of new, yet familiar faces around SCATV as of late. Last week, Dave Ortega took over as our new Programming Coordinator & Production Assistant. I say familiar, because Dave, as a Somerville resident, has experience behind the BFR radio mics as well as doing some SCATV studio productions. He’s already taken to the programming scheduling process. And with his background working at Brandeis University’s National Center for Jewish Film we can expect to see some changes (for the better) in the process for submitting content to SCATV. If you are a community media producer or show sponsor on SCATV, be sure to connect with Dave to get him familiar with your show/s.
There is also change afoot with Somerville Neighborhood News. Heather Aveson has chosen to move on from her role here at SCATV (although she is available or free-lancing purposes where she possesses unmatched expertise (no one knows more about the ins-and-outs of the Green Line Extension)). Taking the helm as SNN executive producer is Peter Levine. A regular producer at SCATV, Peter has already produced the November 8 episode…you didn’t notice? These are signs of a smooth transition. However, like the changes in the programming arena, expect to see the look and feel of SNN evolve over time as our new SCATV staff have an impact on things here at the old firehouse.
Finally, I wanted to touch upon SCATV’s niche here in the community. We are the place where every voice matters. And it is a point of pride that any member the community who wants to express themselves via electronic media, has that opportunity here. As such, I remind everyone that we are a safe space in which members of the Somerville community can and should be comfortable being and expressing themselves. SCATV celebrates the fantastic diversity that gives Somerville its character, and as such we encourage the our members and guests to take advantage of this crossroads of ideas and voices in environment of mutual respect and civility. This why community media centers exist. This is why community media centers are relevant. And SCATV is your community media center.
