SMC Sponsors 45th Boston Sci Fi Film Festival – Come Attend the Festivities!

The Boston Science Fiction Film Festival (“Boston SciFi”) is an 11-day cinematic event held at the historic Somerville Theatre from February 7th to the 17th. The 2020 edition marks their 45th anniversary as the longest running genre fest in America. The first nine days consist of a traditional film festival. Whether they be features, shorts, webisodes, workshops, parties or a new Hollywood film.

All of these fantastic reasons is why Somerville Media Center is a media sponsor this year!

BostonSciFi emphasizes emerging directors with distinct visions from around the globe. Don’t lose out on this rare opportunity to mix and mingle with International Filmmakers as they talk about filming in their respective countries, their unique perspectives in filmmaking, and so much more!

This year Boston SciFi is honored to show films submitted by many international directors. LUZ is a Guatemalan film directed by Javier Borrayo. The film, which was majorly funded using crypto-currency, tells the story of a man trying to quantify karma after he suffered a tragic loss during the Guatemalan civil war. This will be the US premiere of LUZ, and Javier will be attending the festival to host a post-screening Q & A. THE LONG WALK, directed by Laos’ first and only female filmmaker, Mattie Do, is a ghost story described by Variety as a “delicately rendered, languidly paced juggling act.” Mattie will be at her film’s screening and will also be hosting a Q&A.
