Training

Somerville Media Center’s technical training tracks are designed to support local content creators in their production efforts, whether personal or professional.

Live TV and streaming video is what we do best.  We own a cable television channel in Somerville, MA, and work to bring local content to cable subscribers in our city.  This track can begin with essential equipment operation including cameras, audio mixing, lighting systems, and the vMix switcher while exploring studio safety protocols and production workflows.

Learn how you can create audio podcasts, create professional podcasts and live radio broadcasts, operate equipment and broadcasting software, and manage media like a boss. Beginners and experienced content creators alike can gain the skills and knowledge to produce your own audio content.

Learn live sound recording starting with microphone types to audio mixing boards.  Beginners and novices can learn practical skills to apply at festivals, venues, and community events.  Perfect for anyone curious about the technical side of live music and events.

Learn to edit our video with professional editing software including the basics of importing video content, file management, cutting and arranging clips, transitions, graphics, and much more. The track can advance you forward to color correction, graphics and animation, and advanced editing techniques.

This track focuses on building production competency, including scriptwriting, storytelling, social media impact, and becoming a more effective producer in pre- and postproduction.

Most specialized hands-on training sessions require in-person attendance to ensure proper equipment use and safety protocols.  However, in some circumstances, online instruction alternatives may be available for those who cannot attend in-person due to mobility or other accessibility concerns.  Contact us for more information.
