Want to use the Hot Set without a mask? Be our guest.

Since November, SMC has been open by appointment to our producers while strictly adhering to health and safety protocols. As Governor Charles Baker is dropping restrictions in businesses, we’re loosening up some of our rules too.
Well, not all of them. As we have members and staff who have not yet been vaccinated, we must ask that in all common areas, hallways and in the editing suite you must wear a mask.
Today you may remove your mask at SMC in the following areas:

  • Up to three (3) unmasked adults may use the Hot Set with the door closed to staff and the public. If you require staff assistance, everyone must mask up before that staffer may enter the room.
  • Up to three (3) unmasked adults may use the Boston Free Radio/podcasting room with the door closed to staff and the public. If you require staff assistance, everyone must mask up before that staffer may enter the room.
  • Up to three (3) unmasked adults may use the Main Studio with the door closed to staff and the public. Masks must be worn in the Control Room. If you require staff assistance, everyone must mask up before that staffer may enter the room.

Users of our facility must continue indoor masking in public places like hallways and bathrooms — even when six feet of distance can be maintained. We understand the data is clear that it is safe for vaccinated members of the public to share a room, but until everyone has the opportunity to be vaccinated — including our youth members — we will be taking these precautions.
We remain open by appointment for members, but will now open for hours on Saturdays.

  • Sunday, Monday – Closed
  • Tuesday: 3-8 – By appointment
  • Wednesday: 3-8 – By appointment
  • Thursday: 3-8 – By appointment
  • Friday: 3-8 – By appointment
  • Saturday: 12-6 – By appointment

As more of our members become fully vaccinated this summer, we expect to expand our hours and begin offering drop-in hours (no appointment needed) for the editing room and equipment checkout/returns.
Thank you for continuing to be part of the Somerville Media Center’s story. We remain open to help you tell yours.
