Meetings and Events
- This past Saturday, September 3rd, BFR was out representing at Starlabfest in Union Square hyping up the station and having tons of fun! We handed out bumper stickers and gave out some newly designed choplets (see attached) to fest attendees and generally got folks excited about the station. Outdoor fests like this are great ways for us to build station visibility, is anyone available to support for the following ones:
- Fluff Fest (September 24th): Recording and/or live broadcasting from the SCATV “Sticky Stories” stage, we would need at least one DJ willing to support for this.
- Honk Fest (Oct. 7th-9th): Handing out flyers and bumper stickers, maybe having Honk! bands come into your show, perhaps figuring out how to do a live broadcast
- The 2nd Evolution of Hip Hop Festival is coming up Saturday, September 17th! Contact Yvette Wilks (Wats Da Wurd?) for more info!
- The BFR Advisory Council will be meeting Thursday September 29th here at SCATV.
- Duck Village Stage at Aeronaut still has availability for BFR for Fridays in November and December– please let me know if you are interested in doing a live DJ set for future events!
Station Updates
- We have purchased 3 new pairs of full-coverage headphones for the studio. Yay!
- We are purchasing a new Audio Editing PC for the Editing Suite that we will be installing once Adam gets back from vacation next week, as the old PC is on its way out.
- We have updated the BFR Training Manual: now it has PICTURES!–check it out online here or in the main studio!
- We have cleaned up some of the menu items on the website, and have also added a new page–the Mix of the Month! If you have a recording of a recent show that you want to highlight, send it to me to be considered for this fun new feature!
- I have also submitted our station to be included on a number of new online radio directories, including Itunes Radio.
- We are in the exploratory phases of developing a “Part 15” microbroadcast feature of our station. Find out what we mean here: http://www.radiosurvivor.com/2014/03/04/las-kchung-radio-demonstrates-the-power-of-part-15-broadcasting/ and if you’d like to get involved, let me know!
New Shows and shoutouts!
- We are excited to welcome our newest BFR show, The Pop Culture Experiment (check out their blog here), hosted by pop culture and cover song conneseuir Patrick Garvin! Pat will be taking his popular “Cover Songs Uncovered” concept to a whole new level, featuring weekly romps through the extended histories of cover songs and the varying artists who perform them. The Pop Culture Experiment will run every Saturday, from 10-11am. Make sure to tune in and spread the word!
- A big shout out to John Zani for consistently bringing awesome metal to the masses through his monthly residency at ONCE/Cuisine En Locale (and broadcasting it live on BFR)!
- Shoutout to Yvette Wilks for helping out with Starlabfest filming and recruitment.
- Shoutout to Ed Wroblewski of Talking Hendrix for doing a great job supporting Voices of Time and Joe Vig’s Pop Explosion via remote quality control!
