Inside the SCATV studio is a monthly blog post where SCATV staff interviews members, to learn a little bit more about who they are and their background. There is a set series of 10 questions they answer. This month, we hear from Boston Free Radio producer, former rock journalist and dedicated volunteer, Ken McIntyre! Learn more about Ken below in his interview with SCATV!
1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Ken but you might know me as the frankly legendary rock writer Sleazegrinder.
2. What was the strangest job you’ve had?
Rock journalism is constantly weird. Most rock stars are delusional lunatics.
3. Where is your favorite place to retreat for mental or physical health?
Even though the prep-work can be stressful up to and including when the mics are turned on, I am probably happiest and most content when the on-air light is on at the radio station, be it BFR or WEMF.
4. Who were your early creative mentors or source for inspiration?
Evel Knievel, the Fonz and Elvis are responsible for everything, really.
5. How do you get past creative roadblocks?
I usually follow the thread of some new idea and then circle back later.
6. How has SCATV/BFR been a positive influence in your creative media career?
BFR took us in like orphans when our EMF show was on hiatus and we spent the summer helping each other to make a show like ours work here. It was really fun and everybody was so helpful and enthusiastic, it really made me want to be a part of what was happening here. I followed up with a documentary filmmaking class here that was amazing and inspiring. I am planning on producing a show here in the fall. SCATV is the best!
7. What is your favorite music album?
Urge Overkill, Saturation. Easily!
8. If you could have entrance music, what would it be?
Don’t Fear the Reaper!
9. What’s your favorite spot in Somerville to hangout or visit?
I have loved the Somerville theater since it was a daily double-feature fleapit with no AC back in the 80’s.
10. In 140 characters or less, how would you pitch your show or who you are?
I’m an internationally renowned sleazy rock journalist and host of the Sleazegrinder Supershow on TV and radio. and now I am teaming up with the most dangerous band in town to bring you the Heavy Leather Topless Dance Party. Gird your loins!
