In the Summer of 2017, groups with hateful agendas organized rallies under the banner of Free Speech. These rallies were divisive and violent. In Charlottesville, VA three people were killed and in the aftermath, President Trump made remarks in defense of the rally organizers and participants.
In the wake of these events and following a ‘Free Speech’ rally on Boston Common in August, Somerville Media Center opened its doors to the public with just one question: “What does Free Speech mean to you?”
